‘Food over Fire’ by Pip Sumbak returns!
The Cellar by Gilbert will once again offer their unique long lunch experience each Saturday ‘Food over Fire’.
Located close to the centre of town the converted sandstone cheese factory offers guests the chance to enjoy superb wines and locally sourced food in a relaxed environment.
After the success of its first year, ‘Food over Fire’ will re-commence on 19th May. It will take place every Saturday until 29th September.
The relaxed and indulgent four-course dining experience is set around a communal table. Dishes feature the freshness and versatility of Mudgee’s seasonal produce in this ‘Farm to Table’ adventure. Pip manages to showcase regional ingredients at their best be it animal, fruit or vegetable. The first course is served around the fire-pit, where guest will be introduced to Pip, learn about the local producers and of the dishes being served.
Pip says “People love the immersive nature of the food over fire experience. Cooking in this way can be challenging but I love the authenticity; nothing can be hidden and it can be quite theatrical.Our guests can feel the heat of the fire, smell the delicious aromas and watch it all being cooked. With a glass of wine in their hand, they feel much closer to the farmer, the chef and indeed the winemaker.”

Upon arrival, guests will be presented with the choice of two beverage flights; wine or cider and craft beers; this choice compliments the dishes provided by Pip. Sixth generation winemaker’s and owners Simon and Will Gilbert are often found pouring wine and helping Pip with the fire-pit unless there are grapes to crush or ferments to check.
