Our wines now have a place to call home – The Cellar by Gilbert.

Located on the edge of the town of Mudgee, the converted sandstone cheese factory foregoes the traditional cellar door model offering guests the chance to enjoy superb wine, local charcuterie and High Valley cheese in a relaxed, wine-bar like environment.

The team – many of whom also work in the winery – take traditional country hospitality to the next level with their informed, attentive service. Winemakers and owners Simon and Will Gilbert are also often found splashing wine into glasses if there aren’t any grapes to crush, ferments to check or finished wines to bottle.

“We wanted to create a space that reflects the way we enjoy wine,” says Simon. “In friendly company, with delicious food, good service and a relaxed environment. At the moment, I’m loving that I can grab a bottle of white and some cheese, head outside to one of the long tables in the garden, soak up the country views and chat with friends. But once winter hits, I’m going to be pretty happy settling in by the open fire with a glass of red. Basically, it’s a place that I want to spend time in with friends and family.”

 The Cellar by Gilbert offers both current and museum releases from four labels that source fruit some of Australia’s leading wine regions; Orange, Mudgee, Canberra District and Eden Valley. Wine lovers looking to explore these regions and the Gilberts wines in greater detail won’t be disappointed. The Gilberts offer tailor-made masterclasses that delve deep into the production of their own wines, as well as an inspiring domestic and international list of wines – many of which are made by their family, friends and mentors. “Having these world-class international wines sitting alongside our own keeps us on our toes, pushing us to do better and better things,” says Will. “It also gives wine lovers a chance to put the wines we make into context. But, at the end of the day, I just love drinking them.”

The Cellar by Gilbert is located at 137 Ulan Road, Mudgee. It is open 7 days a week from 10am-6pm.
